West Australian brothers Travis Robinson and Beau Robinson will resume their season-long battle in the BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC) this weekend, with the KMC Wheels St George 399.

Three rounds into the 2025 AORC, Travis Robinson and navigator Paul Currie currently hold a dominant lead in the outright standings, sitting on 1762 points following back-to-back victories at the Finke Desert Race and Loveday 400.

Travis’ next closest rival is his brother Beau Robinson and navigator Shane Hutt, who sit clear in second on 1352 points – following an unfavourable opening to the season in Pooncarie where they finished 25th. Jared Percival and Matthew Gallasch round out the current outright top three with 1056 points.

The top three Championship runners are among the 50 competitors registered for this year’s St George 399 event, which returns to the AORC calendar for the first time since 2022.

Robinson credits his run of form in 2025 to a new approach to racing – borrowed from nine-time AORC Champion Shannon Rentsch.

“It’s been a good run, and we’ve picked up a new method – I took six years off racing, and I swore to myself that if I was ever to come back, I would use the Shannon Rentsch method. And that is ‘to finish first, first you must finish’,” said Travis, the 2023 Champion.

Rather than worrying about edging out Beau at this weekend’s St George 399, Travis insists he simply wants both trucks on the podium come Sunday afternoon.

“As long as we’ve got two trucks on the podium each weekend, we’ll be happy,” Robinson said.

In the competitive SXS Championship, Glen Ackroyd holds a 106-point lead over Lachlan Bailey, following his second win of the season in Loveday. The runner-up placing remains tight, with just 32 points separating Bailey and Greg Campbell.

According to St George officials, the 85km track for this year’s event will offer a mix of tight and open sections, and differing terrain – ensuring it is suited to all categories and driving styles. With some light rain forecasted in the lead-up to the event, dust-free conditions are anticipated on track across much of the weekend.

Pro Buggy machines have typically fared well at St George, with a podium lockout of the event when it was last run in 2022.

That trait bodes well for Jared Percival and Matthew Gallasch, who have been consistent all season and will take confidence from finishing runners-up in the 2024 AORC title.

With a points-and-a-half scoring system in place at the fifth and final round of the AORC at Kalgoorlie – the Robinson’s home race – in October, the title fight looks set to go down to the wire.

All the formalities at the St George 399 kick off this Friday afternoon with traditional scrutineering.

The track action itself will be split across Saturday and Sunday. First up, Prologue on Saturday morning will dictate the running order for the afternoon’s two-lap Section one. Then on Sunday will follow two additional sections – one of two laps in the morning followed by a one-lap dash in the afternoon.
