Aussie trio represent well in Asia

A relatively quiet weekend for our drivers overseas, with the international spotlight shining on a couple of events – both of which were on the Asian continent.

TCR World Tour – Zhuzhou

Supercars champion Will Brown filled in for HMO Customer Racing driver Josh Buchan for the recent China portion of the TCR World Tour in Zhuzhou, as Buchan participated in the GT World Challenge Australia at New Zealand’s Hampton Downs.

Brown’s weekend at the Zhuzhou International Circuit consisted of a fourth, seventh, and fourth result across the weekend’s three races.

Teammate Ryan MacMillan had a consistent weekend of results with finishes of 12th, 13th, and sixth.

In his second race, MacMillan finished the race with suspension issues, meaning the Hyundai i30 N would need repairs for the third and final race of the weekend.

In the third race, an incident at the end of the race saw three cars getting into a tangle on the final lap, which provided MacMillan a chance to jump several spots by sweeping around the outside of the scene and ending the weekend on a positive note.

The HMO Customer Racing team will head to Macau for the TCR World Tour Final on 13-16 November. Buchan will return alongside MacMillan for the weekend.

Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship – Haryana

Recently crowned Motorsport Australia Motorkhana Championship winner Corinne East-Johnston took part in Round 3 of the Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship in India.

Featuring tight competition, and long and challenging course layouts, East-Johnston qualified into the finals, then progressed into the knockout stages.

East-Johnston managed to work her way into the top eight and then again into the Semi-Finals.

In the Semis, East-Johnston picked up two late penalties, which would bring her round to a close and result in a fourth-place finish.

“It was definitely one of the better events I have competed in. Huge thanks to the organising committee, officials, volunteers and support crew who ran the event extremely well,” East-Johnstone said.

“The support of the sponsors enabled the event to occur at this high-level, albeit grassroots, international competition.”

Round 4 of the Asia Auto Gymkhana Championship will be held in Taiwan at the end of November — marking the celebration of 20 years of international gymkhana competition in the region.
