Supercars sets up for Sandown Semi Final

The Repco Supercars Championship will roar around Sandown Raceway for this weekend’s pivotal Penrite Oil Sandown 500, where four drivers will compete for a place in the Adelaide Grand Final.

The Supercars Championship will hold two 250-kilometre races this weekend, where of the 24-car field, seven finalists will battle it out to advance.

Broc Feeney enters the weekend as the top seed, and is eager to return to the top step of the Sandown event to punch his ticket to the title decider.

“I’m excited,” Feeney said.

“It’s a pretty short turnaround, and I’ve raced in between in New Zealand as well.

“So I’ve been busy, I’m looking froward to it, a Semi Final, so I’m looking forward to what this weekend brings.

“Sandown is one of my favourite tracks, lots of good memories here in 86s and Supercars, so hopefully I can create a few more this weekend.”

Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters sits on the cut line in fourth heading into the weekend, at the same venue where he scored his first career win in 2017.

Thomas Randle enters as the seventh and lowest seed of the remaining finalists.

A Melbourne local, Randle is embracing Sandown’s motorsport heritage this weekend, sporting a race suit and livery on his Castrol Ford Mustang emulating Larry Perkins’ iconic 1990s colours.

“To still be in the Semi Final, in the home round, is pretty cool, we’ve done plenty of laps here,” Randle said.

“We’re seventh, we’re not in the four at the moment and I can’t go any further back in the championship.

“It’s going to maximum aggression, we’ve got to be selfish, and I am sure every other driver is thinking the same thing.

“I think we’re going to see some pretty exciting racing this weekend.”

Perkins won the 1998 Sandown 500 in the livery Randle will wear, as a good omen to follow into this weekend.

On-track action at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 begins on Friday with Supercars practice. Boost Mobile Qualifying, a Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout, and a 250-kilometre Supercars race takes place on both Saturday and Sunday.

The top four finalists advance to the Grand Final in Adelaide, where the 2025 Repco Supercars champion will be crowned.
