Motorsport Australia President Andrew Fraser has been elected to the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) at the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) elections held in recent days.
The WMSC has global responsibility for all aspects of international motorsport, and decides upon on the rules, regulations, safety and development of motorsport at every level from karting to Formula One.
“Being elected to the WMSC is an honour and a responsibility. I am grateful for the strong support shown by my colleagues across the global motorsport community,” Fraser said.
“Australia has an outstanding reputation in global motorsport – forged by many over many years – and I look forward to working to continue, sustain and further what has been built by others.”
Fraser commended retiring Council member and Motorsport Australia FIA Delegate, Garry Connelly AM, as well as newly re-elected FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
“I also want to acknowledge the outstanding service of Garry Connelly AM on his singular service on the Council and extend my congratulations to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem on his re-election. Their leadership has set a strong foundation for the important work ahead for our sport,” Fraser added.
The Council is made up of the FIA President, FIA Deputy President for Sport, seven Vice-Presidents, 14 titular members and five members by right, including the President of the FIA Manufacturers’ Committee and the President of the FIA Drivers’ Committee.
Australian Automobile Association (AAA) Managing Director Michael Bradley was re-elected to the FIA’s Mobility World Council, meaning Australia is represented at both the peak governing bodies for motorsport and for motoring globally.
