Motor Racing Australia’s (MRA) season is underway following a successful opening race weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, with the Series’ Director exclaiming an “exciting next chapter”.

Sydney Motorsport Park played host to categories such as Super TT, Excels, Clubman Series, the Mazda MX5 Cup and SuperSports on Sunday for the first time under the banner of Motorsport Australia in the Series’ history.

Series Director Terry Denovan stated the Series would not be “looking back” following positive feedback and high sponsorship participation in the lead-up to the MRA Series opener, including grassroots streaming service Blend Line TV.

“Overall, it was a terrific and very positive day. I had some great conversations with Motorsport Australia representatives, and it was valuable to sit down and talk through the event and the series as a whole,” Denovan said.

“Usually the day before an event I’m counting down to it being over, but by Saturday afternoon I was genuinely looking forward to Sunday morning and the opportunity to do things a little differently.

“It’s been a positive step forward. I’m not looking back, put it that way.”

MRA has been a highly respected state racing series since its inception in 2009.

As part of the MRA’s move to Motorsport Australia, it will receive assistance from top motorsport officials across the country, event supplementary regulations referencing the Motorsport Australia National Competition Rules, and the necessary licence endorsements to race at Mount Panorama in addition to one of the MRA’s core categories, Super TT, to feature on the support card for the 2026 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

Motorsport Australia CEO Josh Blanksby, who attended the season opener of the 2026 MRA Series at Sydney Motorsport Park, noted the significance of the day within the New South Wales motorsport landscape.

“This most recent MRA event marks an important and exciting moment for motorsport in New South Wales,” Blanksby said.

“The strength of the fields, the professionalism of the event and the enthusiasm from competitors clearly showed the potential of the Series.

“We’re proud to support MRA’s growth and look forward to seeing it continue to thrive in 2026 and beyond.”

The 2026 MRA Series boasts eight events across Sydney Motorsport Park and One Raceway, three of which being 300-kilometre endurance races.

The Wakefield 300 will headline a huge Round 2 schedule on One Raceway’s Wakefield Circuit from 28 February to 1 March.
