Positive international results in Portimao and Abu Dhabi

GT Winter Series – Portimão

The GT Winter Series remained in Portugal for the 6 Hours of Portimão where a pair of Aussies were right in the thick of the action.

Rising star Jayden Kelly and the Greystone GT team were in good form from the get go, securing pole position after a flawless qualifying session. Kelly and the squad led the way outright and in the GT3 class, putting down fastest times in different sectors throughout the race.

Greystone GT eventually took home the win, almost four minutes ahead of the race runners-up.

Christian Mansell made up one half of the Team Motopark outfit, partnering with Marcel Ramirez in the #28 Mercedes AMG GT3.

The duo were fastest in the practice sessions among GT3 participants and were P2 in Qualifying, putting them on the front row of the grid alongside Kelly.

A few penalties and some bad luck cost had cost the pairing some valuable time, but despite the conditions it was a flawless drive, a drive good enough to put Mansell on the bottom step of the podium, both outright and in GT3.

The Winter Series is back in action later this week heading to Spain’s Circuit Valencia from 12-15 February.

Formula Winter Series – Portimão

2025 Motorsport Australia AU4 Champion Noah Killion was in attendance at the Algarve International Circuit for Round 3 of the Formula Winter Series.

Killion clocked the 12th fastest time in Qualifying 1, the 15th fastest lap in Qualifying 2 before commencing the three race sessions.

Killion’s overtaking ability was on display from the first race session of the weekend, crossing the finish line 10th, which was followed up with results of 11th and 13th in the concluding two races.

The Formula Winter Series follows the wider Winter Series cohort to Spain’s Valencia at the Circuit Valencia from 12-15 February.

Asian Le Mans Series – Abu Dhabi

Competitors took to the track at the Yas Marina Circuit for the final round of the Asian Le Mans Series.

Australians Griffin Peebles and James Allen were present for two four-hour races as the series came to a close, both in the LMP3 class.

Peebles departed Portugal with impressive results, securing seventh in Qualifying 1 and eights in Qualifying 2. Peebles and the DKR Engineering team fell short one position of a podium, but saved their best performance for the final session of the series in the second four-hour race.

The race saw two VSC / Safety Car periods and a Red Flag caused by a high-speed accident on the back straight before Turn 8, with Peebles crossing the line over 11 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

“This weekend has been really good for the team. We really stepped it up since Dubai,” Peebles said post-win.

“Yesterday [Saturday], we had P4 and we did a really good job. Just needed something at the end to get us close with the better tyres.

“Today [Sunday], we got a little bit of luck with the virtual safety car, but we had super good pace. Really happy with the team, and the changes we made for this race today was really good.”

Allen’s weekend yielded positive results as well, claiming third in Race 1 to get onto the podium with RD Limited. The trio had to settle for 12th in Race 2 to finish the campaign.
