Motorsport Australia has unveiled its newest activation at the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2026, providing racegoers with an abundance of information about the governing body’s full range of grassroots motorsport disciplines.
The Motorsport Australia Grassroots Activation, located at the Australian Grand Prix Pit Stop Park near Gate 8, will provide visitors with important information about six different motorsport disciplines.
The disciplines featured at the activation, include:
- Motorkhana: Motorkhanas are motor sport events designed to test the acceleration, braking and handling of cars and the skill and judgment of drivers. Most importantly, motorkhanas provide fun and enjoyment whilst practising and learning car control. Oversteer and understeer will be found in abundance, but at safe speeds under controlled conditions
- Khanacross: Khanacross events are timed motorsport competitions run on bitumen or gravel tracks, featuring off‑road conditions that test drivers’ car control across varied terrain. Courses are designed with plenty of turns and obstacles to keep speeds low, ensuring average speeds stay under 70 km/h and maximum speeds under 100 km/h.
- Hill Climb: Hill Climbing is a fast, precision‑driving challenge where you race uphill on a twisting bitumen course to set the quickest time. Every run is a chance to improve, with a fun, social atmosphere that makes it one of motorsport’s most accessible and exciting disciplines.
- Supersprint: A Supersprint is a timed track event where drivers run individually to set their fastest lap. Competitors are grouped by vehicle performance, and each group usually completes 4–5 runs throughout the day, giving participants around an hour of total track time.
- Rally Regularity: Rally Regularity gives newcomers the full rally experience without the high cost or complex safety requirements of Special Stage Rallying. With controlled speeds and simplified vehicle prep, it’s an affordable, low‑pressure way to try real rally conditions, build confidence and learn the basics before committing further. It’s the perfect entry‑level step for anyone wanting to experience rallying safely, cheaply and with plenty of fun along the way.
- Circuit Racing: Circuit racing is one of the most popular and exciting forms of motorsport, where drivers race against each other on a closed, purpose-built circuit. It’s all about precision, speed, and strategy, as drivers push their cars to the limit, battling for position on tracks that vary in size, complexity, and layout. Circuit racing offers an enjoyable motorsport option for participants and spectators at all levels.
- Off Road: Off Road is a form of timed competitive motorsport in either production or custom-made vehicles driving over a variety of surfaces (made and unmade), with or without assisted navigation, over a variety of race lengths. The main emphasis is on car control, race preparation and driving skill. Speed is unrestricted.

Dedicated and knowledgeable Motorsport Australia staff members will be attending the activation throughout the grand prix, accompanied by vehicles used for each discipline.
There will also be enthusiastic car club members to help explain the benefits of been a member of a Motorsport Australia affiliated car club.
