The Tatts Finke Desert Race has already reached capacity with 150 car crews entered into this year’s event.
Running as the second round of the 2020 BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship (AORC), entries for cars opened at 9am ACST on Monday and it took just six minutes for the maximum number to be hit – with more than 30 drivers just missing

A number of high profile drivers have been confirmed to compete in the event with international superstar Toby Price and last year’s winner Jack Rhodes entered to do the cars and bike double in 2020.
Also making the cut was reigning AORC champion Mark Burrows and previous King of the Desert Greg Gartner.
With last year’s field extended to 165 in the weeks that followed the cut-off, event Secretary and Assistant Clerk of the Course Kelsey Branford was hopeful there could be a similar outcome for 2020 after the interest shown in the iconic race.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have already reached our cap for cars,” Branford said.
“We expected to reach the mark comfortably but not within in a matter of minutes so the event committee is really pleased.
“The fact that we reached it so quickly shows the draw of the event is still there and we hope we can now run it to everyone’s expectation.
“We feel we can make this year bigger and better but right now we have the difficult task of trying to figure out if we can extend the field.”
The Tatts Finke Desert Race takes place between Alice Springs and the Aputula Community (Finke) on 5-8 June.
