The WA Sporting Car Club (WASCC) returns to Wanneroo Raceway this Sunday for its August Meeting, with around 120 entries expected to compete over nine categories in the club’s fourth event for the year.
While the championship’s regular categories will be on show during the round, all eyes will be on Formula Vee with the category to make history as three members from the same family compete against each other in the same race for the first time.
This weekend will mark long term WA Sporting Car Club member and category veteran Bruce Welsh’s first ever time against his two children, April and Connor, in a race meeting.
Having been in the game for 25 years and building up a long list of achievements as a result, the apple was never going to fall far from the tree with April and Connor following their father’s footsteps into the race car as they look to forge a career for themselves.
While 27-year-old April has been racing for quite some time now, her younger brother only started racing this year when Bruce went overseas and left him the car.

Now, the three will get the chance to race against each other when Bruce was an opportunity came up to get back behind the wheel after spending 2020 on the sidelines watching his children
“After standing in the pits for two meetings, I was desperate to get out there with them,” Bruce said.
“Having given my car to Connor, I was without wheels. That’s when the spirit of the club rose again, and another member offered me a drive in his spare 1200.
“It will be an awesome opportunity to all race together – a highlight of my racing career.”
Outside Formula Vee, there are will be some notable names running in the meeting with Dunlop Super2 Series star Kurt Kostecki contesting the joint Formula 1000 / SR3 Radical category.
While Kostecki be joined by Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup driver Aaron Love and 2019 Arise Driver Search winner Max McRae in the SR3 Radicals class, competitors in the F1000 class will be battling it out for the Kostera Cup during one of its times on track.
Another feature race to look out for will be the Street Car Racing Association of WA’s annual Torque Trophy. Since the 1970s, the annual event has attracted some very hot competition over the years with this year to be no different.
Despite having an incident in July’s meeting, last year’s winner Andy Stevens will be in attendance and will be looking to defend his title against a number of top contenders.
Other notable categories to take place on the weekend will be Holden HQs, Formula Ford, Sports Sedans and Improved Productions.
Spectators will return for the second time post COVID-19, with fans able to watch from multiple vantage points, as well as having full access to the pits with organisers to be enforcing social distancing and all COVID-19 precautions in line with Motorsport Australia’s Return To Race document.
The WA Sporting Car Club’s August meeting will take place at to Wanneroo Raceway on Sunday 16 August.
