Motorsport Australia’s FIA Girls on Track program has expanded to rallying, with the debut of FIA Girls on Track – Rally School.
Queensland will host the program’s first event on Saturday 31 May, in partnership with Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club (IMWAC), Rally School Australia and the Queensland Government.
Held at Rally School Brisbane in Willowbank, Queensland, participants will gain hands-on driving experience, educational workshops, and involvement in event planning and officiating, ensuring a comprehensive immersion into the discipline of rallying.
Participation in this event is entirely free, with cars provided courtesy of Rally School Australia. Registrations are open for women aged 17 – 30 that hold a driver licence (P1 minimum). Experience with manual transmission is preferred.
The day will involve two four-hour sessions, with 25 spots available for each session, starting with an education session and safety briefing, before the rally driving activity.
The education session aims to educate participants of motorsport and rallying, teaching the participants the intricacies of rally cars, the basics of motorsport driving and co-driving, safety protocols, and the physical and mental preparation required for rallying.
No doubt the highlight of the day will be experiencing the thrill of a rally car under the guidance of experienced instructors, driving in a controlled, safe environment that is ideal for beginners.
Queensland rally drivers and co-drivers will be in attendance to support the participants, with the program including a mentorship, aimed at connecting young women with experienced motorsport professionals.
The top two performers across both sessions will be offered a place to participate in IMWAC’s club sprint event on the Sunday after the Girls on Track program, cementing their skills in controlled conditions and allowing them to participate in rallying.
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online, with the event limited to 25 participants who must fulfil the relevant criteria when applying. Successful applicants will be contacted with further event information. Entries close on Monday 26 May 2025.
