Georgia and Cal’s journeys into officiating began in different ways, though both shared the same excitement for being part of the action at the 2025 Louis Vuitton Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Georgia’s introduction to the world of track marshalling was as simple as an online search.
“I looked up ‘Formula 1 officials’ and came across a link to apply,” Georgia said.
“I thought I should just apply and see what happens. A few months later, I got approved.”
Become a Motorsport Australia volunteer official.

Now, as a first-time volunteer, she was most looking forward to experiencing the behind-the-scenes world of motorsport.
“You always see it on TV just behind the barrier, so I’d love to be part of the community that makes it happen,” Georgia said.
Georgia didn’t initially know exactly what her role would entail, but she was excited and grateful to be involved. Along the journey, Georgia made new connections and friendships with other motorsport officials.
“I had no idea at all what to expect from the [Grand Prix] weekend, but that’s okay, I wanted the challenge,” Georgia said.
“I heard from the briefing it’s a mentor-based system, where I will learn how to do everything.”
For Cal, the path to officiating was motived by the FIA Girls on Track program.
After meeting and connecting with experienced officials over time, she began marshalling at smaller events before stepping up to the Australian Grand Prix.
“The best part of officiating is definitely the people,” Cal said.
“Just being able to be involved in motorsport and meeting others with similar interests to me is amazing.”

Her advice for other newcomers in officiating is to start at a local level.
“Starting on a smaller scale is the best way to gain experience,” Cal explained.
“You get to meet a lot of people and become part of the strong community.”
Both Georgia and Cal embody the spirit of motorsport volunteering, embracing the unknown, learning from mentors, and embracing camaraderie trackside.
Their enthusiasm mirrors that of seasoned Motorsport Australia officials, who began their journey as a teenagers and now leading teams at the highest level.
For those inspired to get involved, take the first step, ask questions, and immerse yourself in the world of motorsport officiating.
