Rolex 24 Hour hosts largest share of Australian representation abroad

Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona – Daytona Beach

Six Australians got behind the wheel in Florida at Daytona International Speedway, for the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the Weathertech Sportscar Championship.

2025 Motorsport Australia Gold Star recipient and reigning IMSA GTP Champion Matt Campbell made his season debut with Porsche Penske Motorsport in the Porsche 963, where the #6 car would have to settle for one spot off the podium in the GTP Class.

Starting fifth on the grid and taking early floor damage, Campbell and teammates Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor persevered to claim fourth after 24 hours after starting fifth on the grid, while Team Penske’s #7 vehicle won the event – marking three-consecutive Daytona 24 Hour wins for the team.

In GTD Pro, Aussie trio Kenny Habul, Andretti IndyCar driver Will Power and 2025 Supercars Champion Chaz Mostert succeeded in getting onto the podium, driving the Australian flag to a second place result.

Leading with an hour and a half to go, the #75 Mercedes-AMG GT3 was undercut by the race-winning Paul Miller Racing BMW M6 following the final pit stop sequence to secure a 10-second lead and ultimately the win, albeit an extremely strong performance from the Australians.

Tom Sargent was unable to double up on Daytona 24 podiums when co-driver Adam Adelson hit an LMP2 car, causing irreparable damage to the #120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 and forcing an early retirement after just 87 laps.

Josh Buchan made an appearance in the undercard BMW M Endurance Challenge at Daytona event, as part of the 2026 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

Buchan and the team at Bryan Herta Autosport led the TCR class for the majority of the four-hour session, but fell two places prior to the chequered flag.

Formula Regional Middle East Trophy – Abu Dhabi

Alex Ninovic and the rest of the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy pack returned to Yas Marina Circuit for Round 2 of the series, but Ninovic would not leave the circuit empty-handed.

Ninovic was able to claim a race win in Race 2, after battling hard through both qualifying sessions (P15 and P21).

The Rodin Motorsport driver placed 12th in Race 1 and 13th in Race 3 to round out the weekend.

Ninovic heads to the Dubai Autodrome this weekend for Round 3 sitting sixth on the Drivers’ Standings with 46 points.

Formula Regional Oceania Trophy – Teretonga

With no James Wharton in the race order for Round 3 of the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy at Teretonga Park, it meant Giles Motorsport’s Jack Taylor flew the Australian flag solo near Invercargill.

The young driver did not disappoint either, finishing inside the top 10 in all three races, two of which inside the top five.

In what was a drizzly and somewhat miserable weekend weather-wise, Taylor was strong in Qualifying with the eighth- and 13th-quickest times in both sessions respectively.

Taylor started from sixth on the grid in the opening race and rose up a place to finish the session in fifth. Taylor then closed out a fourth-place finish in Race 2, the same spot in the order as when he began the race.

Starting back in 13th for the Feature Race, while Race 3 was rescheduled for Friday 30 January during Round 4 at Highlands, Taylor climbed back into the top 10 to cap off a successful weekend with a 9th place finish.

A decent haulage of points over the weekend has propelled Taylor up into 14th on the Drivers’ Standings with 97 points.

Round 4 this weekend is the final round of the season with Ugo Ugochukwu leading the way on 237 points.

Formula Winter Series – Estoril

2025 AU4 Champion Noah Killion has embarked on another international challenge following the opening round of the 2026 Formula Winter Series at Portugal’s Circuito Estoril.

Behind the wheel of the formidable Tatuus F4-T421 machine, Killion wasted no time getting towards the front of grid by securing eighth in the first qualifying session.

In terms of race results, Killion capitalised in the first of three races placing fifth, fast enough to get the Victorian into the final race’s grid in 13th position.

However, Killion was not classified for the session as he was unable to complete the minimum number of laps following an incident at turn 2 of the opening lap.

Next up for Formula Winter Series will be Round 2 in Portimão from 5-8 February.
