The 82-day wait for the commencement of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship is over with the opening race of the season to take place under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park later tonight to kick off the Dunlop Sydney 500.
The beginning of the season this Friday marks the start of Chaz Mostert’s Championship defence and the first of three race sessions scheduled to take place this weekend, with several support categories feeding the New South Wales motorsport community’s appetite including V8 SuperUtes, Touring Car Masters, Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup, and the Super2 Series.
The Sydney 500 also marks the first Motorsport Australia FIA Girls on Track event for 2026 at a Supercars event, with a Pathways session schedule to take place Friday.
Club events set the stage for a busy grassroots schedule on Sunday with events slated to be hosted by the New England Sporting Car Club, Tamworth Sporting Car Club, Wollongong Sporting Car Club, Westlakes Automobile Club and MG Car Club of Newcastle.
The opening round of the NT Motorkhana Championship begins Friday at Hidden Valley and the Alice Springs Off Road Race Club hosts the 2026 Brekky Bash at Ooraminna Race Track on Sunday to round out the weekend’s events in the Northern Territory.
A quartet of events fall within the state of Queensland this week with four series opening rounds. Round 1 of the South East Khanacross Series takes place in Tamborine, Round 1 of the Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club’s Khanacross and Open Sprint Series begins at Willowbank Motorsport Park and the Mount Cotton Hillclimb Series breaks out as well.
The Bend Motorsport Park will host its latest Track Sports event, incorporating a Porsche Club Sprint, at Mallala and the Baskerville 1000 takes over Baskerville Raceway, hosted by the Hobart Sporting Car Club. Round 4 of the WA Car Club’s Summer Autocross season heads back to Perth Motorplex on Wednesday.
The Victorian Hill Climb Championship reaches Round 2 on Sunday at Gippsland’s Bryant Park, meanwhile the Pakenham Auto Club hosts its February khanacross/Come & Try Day event. The Marque Sports Car Association of Victoria heads to Sandown for Round 2 of its Super Sprint Series and Kyneton Car Club will provide a Junior Development session on Sunday at Rollinson Reserve.
