At just 15 years of age, Abby Bromfield embodies the future of grassroots motorsport and the important role that young members can play. Whether it’s behind the wheel or as a volunteer official, Bromfield’s ambition, passion and dedication showcase grassroots community motorsport at its finest.

A familiar face at Lithgow District Car Club (LDCC), Abby has spent the past two years learning the many moving parts that go into organising successful club events.

After beginning as a timekeeper, she quickly embraced greater responsibilities, initially serving as the club’s Event Secretary, before stepping into the role of Club Secretary earlier this year.

While many teenagers are only beginning to think about getting their learner’s licence, Abby has already developed an impressive understanding of event administration, helping clubs run events smoothly from behind the scenes.

“When it comes to motorsport, my first preference is always to be a driver, but I’ve discovered there’s so much more to the sport through the opportunities LDCC has provided me with,” Bromfield said.

“LDCC is a welcoming, supportive and fun environment, and what I love most is being able to give back to the club that has supported me from the beginning and continues to provide me with countless opportunities.”

Bromfield’s dedication stems from recognising the importance of volunteers in grassroots motorsport.

“When I first started at the club I noticed there was always a shortage of officials,” she said.

“I wanted to help where I could, and it’s been really rewarding learning the different official roles that help events come together behind the scenes. Every role is important, and I hope I can continue giving back to the sport I love.

“From my experience with LDCC and motorsport in general, I’ve learnt there is a place for everyone.

“You don’t have to be able to drive a car really fast or even drive one at all to be involved, there are so many different roles and each one is so important.”

Away from her volunteer and official commitments, Abby is no stranger to competition.

A talented junior driver, she has claimed the Lithgow District Car Club Junior Points Championship in each of the past two seasons.

Lithgow District Car Club President David James said Abby had become an invaluable member of the club.

“Abby has shown remarkable maturity, enthusiasm and commitment in everything she does,” James said.

“Whether she’s competing, volunteering or helping organise events, she leads by example. She’s exactly the kind of young person our sport needs, and we’re incredibly proud to have her as part of the club.”
