The Repco Supercars Championship has headed west this weekend for the Bosch Perth Super 440, with the second half of the 2026 season set to begin at MotorMall Wanneroo Raceway.

With three races on the schedule and valuable championship points up for grabs, the eighth round of the season shapes as a crucial weekend.

Championship leader Matt Payne is looking to extend his advantage after a consistent opening half of the season.

The Grove Racing driver continues to lead the standings, while teammate Kai Allen sits fifth as the Ford squad maintains its place atop the Teams’ Championship.

Grove Racing has embraced the local flavour this weekend, unveiling a partnership with incoming NRL franchise the Perth Bears, with the club’s branding placed on both Penrite Ford Mustangs.

While Payne leads the standings, not many drivers have carried more momentum into Perth than Cam Waters.

The Tickford Racing star has transformed his season after a modest opening campaign, collecting five podium finishes from the last six races, including victories in Darwin and Townsville.

The 31-year-old is now firmly in championship contention and will be chasing a second career victory at Wanneroo after winning there in 2024.

Another driver to watch is Ryan Wood, who claimed his maiden Supercars victory at Perth last year.

The Walkinshaw TWG driver has enjoyed a strong first campaign for Toyota’s new GR Supra. He currently sits seventh in the championship and is eager to repeat last year’s breakthrough performance.

Veteran David Reynolds will also be hoping for a return to the podium. The 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner has shown encouraging pace throughout 2026 and believes his team made significant gains at Wanneroo last season that could translate into a competitive showing this weekend.

Track action begins on Friday with two practice sessions before a pair of 120-kilometre sprint races on Saturday, each preceded by qualifying.

Sunday’s 200-kilometre feature race, preceded by qualifying and a top-10 shootout, will then close out an important weekend in the championship battle.

It was also announced earlier in the week the inaugural New Zealand Double Header, which saw Supercars race across both Taupō and Christchurch, generated more than $21 million in visitor spending, signalling a major new growth area for the championship’s supporter base and season framework.
