The Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) is set to welcome the return of its popular August Access event to the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 22–23 August, with a full field already confirmed for the 2026 edition.
Again bringing together grassroots competitors from across Victoria and beyond, August Access has proven to be one of PIARC’s most popular events, with all 30 team entries selling out well ahead of the event.
This year’s format sees teams of three to six cars contest a single five-hour Regularity Relay on the Sunday, following practice sessions on the Saturday.
The revised schedule marks a change from previous editions, with the relay now run as one continuous five-hour event.
Rather than racing outright for the fastest lap, teams will nominate target lap times for each driver, with success determined by how consistently competitors match those nominated times throughout the relay.
With only one driver from each team permitted on track at any one time, strategy, precision and teamwork will be just as important as outright speed.
The unique format has made August Access a favourite among competitors, offering plenty of track time while rewarding consistency on one of Australia’s most celebrated racing circuits.
As always, safety remains a priority, with competitors required to meet Phillip Island experience requirements before taking part, ensuring all drivers are familiar with the circuit’s fast-flowing and challenging layout.
This includes having at least a Junior Speed Licence or Speed Licence, and having participated in a four-wheeled motorsport event at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit within the previous 12 months.
For competitors who have not competed at Phillip Island during this period, they will be required to complete an observed practice session during the official practice for this event before being permitted to participate.
Although entries have now sold out, the strong demand once again highlights the popularity of the event and the continued appeal of grassroots motorsport at Phillip Island.
