As a Motorsport Australia affiliated club, you are protected by Motorsport Australia’s public liability and personal accident insurance policies.

Notably, the public liability policy provides cover of up to $100 million for the club, its members and volunteers relating to claims involving property damage or personal injury to third parties.

This cover automatically applies to normal club activities, including leasing clubrooms, running of normal club events and conducting fundraising activities such as sausage sizzles.

A key requirement of the public liability policy is compliance with Motorsport Australia’s permit process.

For motorsport-related activities that require a Motorsport Australia permit – such as hill climbs, regularity events or Come & Try events – insurance cover only applies if the appropriate permit has been obtained.

The policy does not extend to activities that are not Motorsport Australia-permitted, such as leasing club facilities to other sporting organisations or hiring out clubrooms for private functions like birthday parties.

Personal accident insurance provides protection for club officials and volunteers who are injured while undertaking authorised club activities.

This includes officiating at events, attending committee meetings, participating in working bees or assisting with fundraising activities.

It is important for clubs to understand that these policies are not comprehensive.

They do not provide cover for damage to a club’s own property or association liability, both of which are important types of insurance that clubs should consider arranging separately.
