Motorsport could not happen without the countless officials who give their time, knowledge and expertise to keep events running safely and fairly.
We see it at every event ranging from a grassroots gathering through to major national categories. Officials play a vital role in every part of the sport.
Their work often takes place out of the spotlight, but their contribution is felt across every session, every event and every participant who gets behind the wheel.

That commitment is celebrated through the Motorsport Australia National Official of the Year Award.
Presented annually by Motorsport Australia, the award recognises an official who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to officiating and made a significant contribution to the sport.

The award recognises much more than the number of events an official has attended. It celebrates the dedication, professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm a particular official brings to motorsport, as well as the positive influence they have on competitors, peers and the wider motorsport community.
At the 2025 Motorsport Australia National Awards Gala Night earlier this year, Jacqueline Devereaux was recognised as the Motorsport Australia National Official of the Year, adding her name to the list of officials whose efforts have made a lasting impact on Australian motorsport.

Devereaux’s recognition is a reflection of the commitment required to officiate at motorsport events, where long days, detailed preparation and a willingness to take on responsibility are all part of the role.

For Devereaux, receiving the National Official of the Year Award was recognition not only of her own contribution, but also of the broader official community and the important role it plays.
“It was humbling, an honour, a big surprise so I was glad I had a little bit of notice to prepare ahead of the night, but I’m still a bit shocked at the recognition and a bit speechless from it I guess,” Devereaux said earlier this year.
“There’s so much work that goes on behind the scenes, not just myself of course, but everyone who puts hours and hours of effort to assist the sport we love.
“I really feel like this award is a big team effort, which is why I feel a bit bad for my name being on the award when we’re really a great team at the moment with a nice, niche group of people getting on with each other.
“It’s really exciting to be an official at the moment.”

The National Official of the Year Award provides an opportunity to recognise those contributions and shine a light on the people who work behind the scenes.

The award is one of the key recognitions presented as part of the Motorsport Australia National Awards Gala Night, an event that celebrates the many people who contribute to the sport throughout the year.
Devereaux’s recognition was a timely reminder of the important role officials play in keeping Australian motorsport moving.
