Thinking about getting into motorsport? Come and Try Days are the perfect place to start.
Throughout the year, Motorsport Australia works with affiliated car clubs across the country to host Come and Try events – relaxed, beginner-friendly days designed to give you a safe and welcoming introduction to motorsport.
These events are a great first step if you’re curious about getting involved, whether behind the wheel or as a supporter. Perhaps you’d like to become an official?
We know that showing up for your first event can be a little daunting, but our Motorsport Australia affiliated car clubs are there to help you on your motorsport journey.
You can find a dedicated Come & Try Day event with our Event Entry portal – simply enter ‘Come & Try Day‘.
Or if you have a particular interest in a type of motorsport or a car brand, there’s going to be a club for you.
Your local club can give you the latest information, upcoming event dates and confirm any specific requirements, like club membership, gear, or vehicle rules.

What is the minimum age requirement to participate in a Come and Try Day?
The minimum age depends on the event you choose:
- 12 years old for Motorkhana and Khanacross.
- 14 years old for Sprints.

Do I need a Motorsport Australia licence for Come and Try Day?
If the event is untimed, you only need an introductory licence, which costs $35. Often these events will assist you with this licence when you sign up or arrive to the event.
Do I need to be a member of a club to participate?
If you have an introductory licence, this is not required.
Are cars provided on the day?
Depending on the event, some Come and Try Days provide loan cars, while others prefer you use a car you are most familiar with. It is recommended to bring your own vehicle.
Does my car need to be inspected?
You will be required to complete a Self Scrutiny Check List. Some events may provide assistance with checking over your car.
Will I be on the track alone or with other cars?
Generally, these events have lower track density, meaning you will be likely sharing the circuit with other participants at a similar level.
Do I need a helmet?
If you are participating in Motorkhana with a road car, a helmet is not required. However, all other events require a helmet.
It is best you check with the event you are interested in attending first to find out the helmet and safety equipment requirements.
Are Come and Try Days safe?
These events are operated in controlled conditions by driving coaches, ensuring a safe experience for every participant.
Are there medical professionals at the events?
All events will have a medical response plan in place to be well equipped in case of an emergency.
What happens if I crash?
It is important to note that car insurance generally does not cover your vehicle when involved in motorsport events. It is best to contact your insurance company and advise the type of event you are participating in to see if you can be covered.
What happens if I get injured?
Within your licence fee, is a personal accident cover to assist you if an incident does occur.
