The Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) is confident the Motorsport Australia Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships’ positive run for 2021 will continue with the club expecting around 250 competitors for the third round of the season.
It’s been an impressive two outings for the Victorian championships so far, which has attracted more than 200 entrants for both meetings, the MG Car Club Victoria’s Sandown round being the standout as it welcomed around 300 for the season opener.
Next month’s round will be the first of two visits at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this year.
With the club accepting competitors until one week out and around 200 entries having already been accepted for the race meeting, which takes place in the middle of May, PIARC spokesman Geoff Bull was looking forward to what would be a big weekend.
“The club is hoping for 250 plus entries in total for this fantastic series which continues to get better by the year with great racing assured,” Bull said.
“This event is round three of five in the championships, which is being conducted at both Phillip Island and Sandown throughout the year, as well as the round last month at the Winton.”
The largest field so far belongs to the Circuit Excels and they are quite close to reaching capacity of 58, while the joint Improved Production and BMW E30 grid has proved to be one of the strongest fields with 40 entries already confirmed.
Another notable field will be the Formula Ford and Formula Ford 1600 competitors, with more than 20 competitors to do battle over the course of the weekend.
Other categories to be on display throughout the round include MG and Invited British Sports Cars, Formula Vees, Sports Sedans, Saloons, Historic Touring Cars and HQs, as well as the exotic cars of the Sports Cars and the classic staple of Porsche 944s.
There will be plenty of action for fans to enjoy on both days with the action beginning at 9am and concluding at 5pm on both days. Tickets are available for purchase with Adult passes starting from $20 and children under 16 being admitted for free.
The third round of the Motorsport Australia Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships takes place at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 15-16 May.
