Australian Grand Prix claims gold in Asia

The Formula 1 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix has claimed three awards at the 2018 Asia’s Sports Industry Awards.

The Formula 1 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix has cleaned up at the 2018 Asia’s Sports Industry Awards (SPIA Asia Awards), taking out three awards during the prestigious event. 

Australia’s premier event picked up the Best International Sporting Event of the Year, Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for a Sports Event and the Best Live Experience at a Sporting Event.

Staged at the Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre in Thailand, global sports agencies, governing bodies and international sports federations made up the important audience attending the event. 

Nominations were submitted from 47 countries across 22 categories and judged by a panel of high-profile industry experts in a stringent four-step process, making the three wins even more impressive.  

Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC), CEO Andrew Westacott was the event was for three prestigious awards.

“As an we are thrilled to have been by leaders of Asia’s tourism and sports industry amongst an extremely high field of entrants,” Westacott said.

“These awards are a credit to the talented AGPC staff and extended Grand Prix family that make this event possible.
 
“The Formula One Australian Grand Prix has proven to be more than just a race – it has evolved to become a four-day festival-style showcase.

“It attracts visitors from across Australia and around the world, whilst promoting Melbourne and Victoria to millions of fans globally, creating value for the state of Victoria.

“It is also a benchmark for international events not only in Australia but around the globe because of the undeniable economic benefits the event generates for Victoria.”

While it was the first time the Australian Grand Prix took out the Best International Sporting Event of the Year award, it was the second consecutive year they had won the Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for a Sports Event award.

The Formula 1 victory wasn’t the only gong for Melbourne, with Visit Victoria also securing gold in the Best Sports Tourism Destination of the Year category, further justifying Melbourne as the sports capital of Australia.

The Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019 kicks off the 2019 season and will take place on 14-17 March at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.
