Skaife named NSW champion

Australian Motor  Hall of Fame member Mark Skaife has joined an elite group of New South Wales sporting greats after being inducted into the state’s Hall of Champions.

Skaife’s induction follows an illustrious career in Australian Touring Cars/Supercars which saw him claim five national titles and 90 race wins including a sensation six Bathurst 1000s. 

After a highly successful career spanning more than 25 years at the top level, the Gosford born driver then moved into the media to commentate on the sport, as well as serve on the Supercars Commission for two years. He has also been part of the CAMS Foundation.

Skaife becomes just the second personality to be inducted into the Hall of Champions, joining three-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Jack Brabham, who currently holds Legend status within the hall.

Since its inauguration in 1979, the Hall of Champions has inducted more 323 sporting icons including Sir Donald Bradman, Dawn Fraser, Ian Thorpe Dally Messenger.

Also to be inducted into the Hall this year alongside Skaife is two-time 200m world champion Jana Pittman, netball icon Catherine Cox, Australian female football pioneer Julie Dolan Olympic softball medallist Melanie Roche.
