Comiskey Motorsports have enjoyed a successful international stint in North America, claiming two top-five finishes against some of the world’s best off road racers.
The crew, led by 2018 Australian SXS runner-up Brett Comiskey, Dan McKenzie and Peter Carr, began their tour in Mexico with the iconic Baja 1000.
In what is known as one of the most challenging off road events available, Carr got the trio off to a good start in the first 285km, before Comiskey took over for the next 250km and McKenzie steered their UTV Pro Turbo Car to a class-fourth
With the team putting in a fantastic display on the international stage against 285 other entries, Comisky was proud with their efforts for just their second attempt at the race.
“It was such a great result for our team, we couldn’t be happier,” Comiskey said.
“The team was quite new and we only met a few new members days before the race.
“We all worked unreal together, everyone did their job and performed at an unbelievable level, so we’re super pumped with the team and our result.
“We also have to say a huge thanks to our navigators Nick Granlund, Jerod Blizer and Matt Shrive. With both race and public traffic scattered across the already challenging course, these guys played a huge role in our success at Baja.”
Despite facing challenges throughout the race, including driving 22 hours across the Baja California Peninsula desert in brutal cold temperatures, McKenzie was thrilled with the car and the result.
“It was exhausting and the night silt stages were just insane with the relentless silt and dust,” McKenzie explained.
“We’re also all from Queensland and we weren’t quite ready for how cold it would get, so those night stages were definitely a challenge for all of us.”
“The car was prepped really well and to the highest standard by Kevin Shrive, which enabled us to finish the race.
“Our BFGoodrich tyres were unreal, they didn’t put a foot wrong and they made the car really controllable.
“The speed of the car was also great thanks to KWI Clutching and the tune from EVO Powersports made it possible for us to get up on top of the whoops in the tough conditions.”
The team then continued their tour into the United States for the Laughlin Night Classic, the seventh and final round of the Best in the Desert Championship’s Parhrump Nugget 250 Nevada.
Attending the event for one of the first times in a Can-Am X3, the team showed no signs of being home-sick, picking up second outright and first in the UTV Unlimited category.
While the event was not as big as the Baja 100, the result was just as impressive as more than a third of the 94 entries were unable to finish the challenging event.
In what was a highly successful end to the tour, McKenzie lauding the team and their ability to face adversity throughout the grueling events.
“The Laughlin Night Classic was a great one for us and we were able to show the Americans what we’re capable of,” McKenzie added.
“We’ve been developing our car setup this year and it has been an ongoing process, but it’s at a really good level now and we’re feeling great.
“The team has really come together as one and we’re like a little family now.
“Living in each others pockets for so long, you get to know one another very well and everything’s working out just perfect.”
