Huge day out for Willunga Hillclimb

Tuesday 11 December, 2018
It's been a brilliant year for Dan Day, capping off 2018 with another victory.

More than 130 drivers have taken part in Ultimate Motorsport Events' Willunga Hillclimb as Dan Day continued his brilliant year in hill climbs to claim the win.

Behind the wheel of his trusty Subaru WRX STi, Day was the only driver throughout the whole event to break the 80-second mark on all three of his runs, highlighting the domination he had on the competition.

Finishing an accumulative 15 seconds behind Day in second outright was Mitsubishi Evo pilot Henry Beasley, while John Beasley ended the event in third, the Mitsubishi Evo 4 driver finishing four seconds behind his son.

While the Beasleys comfortably sealed podium finishes, the battle for fourth saw a three way fight, with only two and half seconds separating Damien Brand, Martin Farkas and Anthony Wallis.

In the event’s first run, it was Farkas and his BMW M3 who drew first blood, finishing one second ahead of Brand and Wallis.

However Farkas’ time in fourth position was short lived after dropping to sixth in the second run as the Brand driven Subaru STI Type R finished ahead of the him in the second and final run of the day, securing outright fourth.

Farkas was able to recover in third and final run, pipping Wallis to earn a top-five finish, Wallis and his Nissan S13 Silvia settling for sixth outright.

Alan Driver and Paul Knopka ended the event in seventh and eighth respectively, while the battle for ninth was one of the closest in the afternoon, only three hundredths of a second separated Ford Fiesta ST pilot Nathan Dale and Andrew Campbell.

Despite Campbell finishing faster than Dale on two occasions, the Nissan S14 driver will look back to his second run as what cost him after falling more than a second and half behind Dale.

While Day ended the event as the big winner, Brand, Wallis, Knopka and Campbell didn’t go home empty handed, taking out class victories, while 11th outright Jacob Richards and Greg Keene in 20th were the only other drivers inside the top-20 to finish with a class win.

The Willunga Hillclimb is Day’s second victory in less than a month after winning the 2018 Trident Tyre Centre Legend of the Lakes Hillclimb in November.
