The Victorian night-of-nights have taken place at Showtime Events Centre as the state honoured 2018’s champions and award winners in the 2018 CAMS Victorian awards presented by Burson Auto Parts.

Outside of the championship winners, the night’s top honour went to Phillip Craig, named Castrol State Official of the Year after many years of work in motor sport.

After first becoming involved in 1999, acting as a FIV team member for Rally of Melbourne, Craig joined the Victoria Fire and Rescue Services and worked his way up to become the Chief Fire Marshal in 2004

Craig has also spent time working as a Deputy Chief Fire Marshal at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix and Virgin Australia Supercars, as well as being an integral member of the CAMS Official Training Teams in Singapore and South Korea.  

The 2018 CAMS Service Star Award saw two influential figures take home the award after many years of service for CAMS, with Dr Brent May and Terry Wade named the winners.

Dr May’s resume is an impressive one, the doctor serving as Team Medical Australia President and Chief Medical Officer since 2013, as well as serving as the Chief Medical Officer at multiple in Formula 1, Supercars and CAMS national events.

The pinnacle of May’s career came in 2016 when he was awarded the FIA Best Doctor of the Year.

As for Wade, the Victorian State Council Chairman and Victorian State Race Series director has been working in the sport for up to 40 years, making him a worthy winner. Wade has acted as a steward at club, state and national levels, while acting as the president of the Austin Healey Owners Club of Victoria.

The evening saw one winner take out a CAMS Service Award with Peter Rosier taking home the accolade after more than 40 years of service to Australian motor sport.

Serving as a steward for much of these four decades, Rosier’s dedication, reliability and integrity made him a well-deserved winner of the award.

Taking out the Burson Future Star Award was Michael Clemente after a host a strong results in the 2018 Hyundai Excel Racing Association of Victoria Champions class - the largest and most competitive excel series throughout the country.

As well as picking up multiple race wins throughout the Victorian Championship, the 17-year-old won both the Excel Nationals and the CAMS SA State Championship in what was a memorable year.
