Virgin Australian Supercars Championship has officially launched its 2019 season in front of media and sponsors in Docklands, Melbourne.

Hosted by Fox Sports presenter and Dare to be Different (D2BD) ambassador Jessica Yates, the season gave fans a look at the 2019 driver line ups, as well as the brand new Ford Mustang on display.

As expected, reigning Champion Scott McLaughlin was the man of the moment throughout the event, with the 25-year-old discussing his maiden title and this year’s championship defence with Yates.

“It’s (title defence) already started because I got hit on the head walking off the stage before and now I have big gash there thanks to my teammate,’ McLaughlin joked.

“But no, I am excited. Everyone starts on zero points and it’s all about having another crack again and that is what we love about our sport.

“It’s so competitive these days and I am just really excited to get back into it. Adelaide can’t come soon enough and I am really excited to drive the Mustang.”

Also sharing the stage on the day was Channel 10 CEO Paul Anderson, head of Fox Sports Peter Campbell and Supercars CEO Sean Seamer.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview with broadcaster Neil Crompton, Seamer said he was excited about the season ahead and some of the milestones set to occur in 2019.

“We are delighted to be able to open our season in Melbourne and Victoria with today's launch, our test day at Phillip Island and then our four events across the course of the season," Seamer said.

"This year’s championship shapes as one of the best on record, with the Mustang on track, new formats including a night race in Perth and hosting KISS at the Newcastle 500.

"We celebrate our 1,000th race in Melbourne in a month's time, a great achievement for a sport that has grown from as a single race in 1960, to become the premier category in Australasia and one of Australia’s biggest sports.”

Only 16 days remain until the 2019 Virgin Australian Supercars Championship’s opening round in South Australia at the Superloop Adelaide 500. The season opener will take place from 28- February – 2 March.
