The FIA has this morning confirmed Formula 1 Race Director Charlie Whiting has sadly passed away. 

CAMS President Andrew Papadopoulos paid tribute to Charlie’s passion for motor sport and the many contributions he made at all levels, including as Race Director.

“On behalf of everyone at the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, I pass on my deepest sympathies to Charlie’s family, friends and colleagues,” Papadopoulos said.

“Charlie was such a passionate contributor to motor sport and like everyone in the motor sport world, we are truly saddened by this shocking news.

“Everyone in the FIA community will be impacted by this loss as he has been involved in the sport for such a long time.

“I can confirm that all CAMS Officials at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019 will wear black armbands over the course of the event to pay tribute to Charlie and the amazing life he led.”
