Bunbury to embrace annual Targa sprints

Wednesday 19 June, 2019
The GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint will take over the town of Bunbury.
More than 115 cars are expected to be part of this month’s GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint with a number of West Australian seniors to experience the ride of their lives.

From Minis, Datsuns and Ford Escorts to V8s, turbo charged rally cars and exotic cars, a good mix of cars will be on deck taking part in the tarmac rally sprint.

With the weekend program to include a free Shannons Show ‘n’ Shine, sprint challenge and the special initiative, where competitors will take the Ocean Star Village residents on a cruise, event Director Ross Tapper was confident the event would be a hit with the locals.

“There’s a strong appetite for the Rallysprint events and for Targa events in the south west with more competitors each year,” Tapper said.

“Rallysprint is fast, fun and great for those new to rallying as well as those more experienced who want to keep their skills honed. Rallysprint requires team work between driver and co-driver and the ability to drive with obstacles in close vicinity of the road, neither of which can be practised on a race track.

“The Bunbury city centre will be alive with the colour and noise of tarmac rallying as competitors take to the street on Sunday morning.

“The street circuit will be exciting for competitors, spectators and local businesses as Mustangs, Chevrolets and Porches as well as some nostalgic classic cars give it their all to finish on the podium.”

The event will start off with the community style cruise on Saturday morning before the car display later in the day, allowing the locals to get up close and personal with the cars and owners.

Sunday’s action will see competitors race the clock on the 4km course made up of the town’s closed roads with the fastest car to be deemed the winner.

There will be a number of points throughout the course where spectators can get safe and fantastic viewing of the action, as well as the service park located on McCombe Road.

The GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint will take place in Bunbury on the 22-23 June.
