Only a few months since receiving the 2018 Castrol New South Wales Official of the Year award, the humble Matt Halpin finds himself back in the spotlight.

As someone who dedicates a large amount of time and dedication into his passion of motor sport, the Tamworth local has been nominated for the Sports NSW Community Official of the Year Award.

After having one of the biggest years on his life as a motor sport official, Halpin is relishing the fact that he is one of six finalists from all sports nominated for the award, despite it not being his motivation.

“It’s quite humbling. I don’t know who nominated me but it’s really exciting,” Halpin said.

“I was happy doing what I was doing as an official. I wasn’t doing it for any accolades, but anything that actually happens on top of me volunteering is a bonus.

“I was surprised just to be nominated and I do not expect anything at all, so I certainly have no expectation for the evening and whether I will win or not.

“In any sport there are people are who completely dedicated to the cause and I am just another one of those people who have a passion and dedicate my time to it, so even to be considered is just an honour.”
