Monday 24 June, 2019
Nick McBride has been nominated for the Morris Finance Sportsperson of the Year award.
Nick McBride has been the latest driver to be nominated for the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia’s 2019 Morris Finance Sportsperson of the Year award.

The Victorian is enjoying his sixth year in the one-make series, occupying third place outright thanks to a clean sweep during the season opener in Adelaide earlier this year

Despite being unable to get back on the top step of the podium, McBride’s positive demeanour, professionalism and conduct have all contributed to the nomination of the prestigious award.

The 28-year-old joins TAG Heuer Pro-Am contender Adrian Flack as the nominees thus far with the eventual winner at season’s end awarded a business class trip to Germany to attend the 2019 Porsche Motorsport Day of Champions and Night of Champions.

Following the announcement, McBride was thrilled to be considered for the award based on his efforts in a series which he loves being apart of.

“It’s pretty cool to be nominated,” McBride said.

"It’s awesome that both Morris Finance have become an integral of the series and I have been nominated for this special award alongside Aaron.

"Obviously I have been in a Cup Car since 2014 and I really enjoy it because it’s an open make series you can race in Australia all the way to overseas.

"It also allows me to still be a lawyer while racing against high-class drivers like Jordan Love, Dale Wood and David Wall. The environment and atmosphere is really fun and it’s a great place to go on the weekend and race.”

As for his career in the Carrera Cup, McBride has made 44 round starts, scoring 11 race victories, four pole positions and four round victories in the process.

McBride has also become one of the most valued ambassadors for the series due to his attitude and determination for the sport and 2019 is no different for the driver.

“We have been pretty fast every we have gone and I am really enjoying my time with Porsche Centre Melbourne, especially now that we’re starting to see results after a tough year in 2018,” McBride added.

“I’m really enjoying the year and hopefully we can get some solid results in the coming rounds and close in on Dale at the top of the standings.”

The next nomination will be announced after the series’ sixth round at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia in August.

The Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia’s next round takes place as a support category for the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship’s Townsville 400 on 5-7 July.
