The CAMS New South Wales Motorkahana championship has seen Aaron Wuillemin continue his charge up the state standings after a thrilling victory in the championship’s penultimate round.

With 30 competitors having two attempts at posting the best times on nine different challenges during the Mini Car Club of New South Wales hosted event, it was always going to be an entertaining show and the championship's biggest names didn’t disappoint.

The day began with reigning Australian champion Corinne East-Johnston asserting her dominance and taking out the first two challenges, while Wuillemin eventually grabbed his first challenge win on third.

East-Johnston managed to post the fastest time on four of the final six challenges, but it was Wuillemin’s two challenge wins that proved vital, helping him eventually come away with a win of merely six hundredths of a second.

The extraordinary victory made it two round wins in a row for Wuillemin as he looks to close in on the state title and cement himself as one of the major players for the Australian championship later this year.

Taking the final step of the podium was the Mini Car Club’s own Phillip East who held firm throughout the event, coming second on multiple challenges and he comfortably settling for third.

Rounding out the top five in fourth and fifth were Andrew Collier and Cobey East-Johnston with the latter edging out Lauren East-Wuillemin by less than a second.

As Wuillemin and Corinne East-Johnston took home their respective class victories, other honours went to Class A winner Paul Ellis and Class C winner Aron Elliott, while Class B winner Dave Wright and Class C winner Robert Rigg both ended the day inside the top 10.

The event also saw four juniors competing in the event as Jaime Albornoz’s 23rd outright secured the win out of the youngsters.

The next round of the CAMS New South Wales Motorkhana will be final round at Sydney Motorsport Park on Sunday 11 August.
