Less than one month remains until the 15th Make Smoking History Targa West held with more than 50 crews expected to compete.

Competitors will cover more than 260 competitive kilometres across 35 stages in the heart of the WA capital and in surrounding Perth towns.

The Targa will be split into the four days with Thursday’s ceremonial start to kick off the rally, before competitors cruise up to Whiteman Park, Muchea and the Ellenbrook Shopping Centre Service Park for a super special stage in the evening.

A new technical Parkerville stage will start proceedings on Friday before crews take on Kalamunda. Competing cars will be on display in the Northbridge Show ‘n’ Shine later that evening.

On  Saturday, up to 127km of long stages in Toodyay, Lower Chittering and Bullsbrook await the cars, while Sunday will see a mixture of short and sharp stages in rural towns and in Perth city.

A number of smaller events are being run in conjunction with the main event including LF Performance Targa City Sprint and the popular Shannons Classic on the Park, where more than 450 registered cars, bikes and boats will be on display.

Entries for Western Australia’s premier tarmac rally are open until 19 July and competitors will have several class options to  enter into, including Competition, Targa 130, Targa 165 and Electric Vehicle categories.

With  the interest in tarmac rallying growing year-on-year, Event Director Ross Tapper was excited about the event would bring to the west.

“The event program is every car-lover’s dream and there is so much happening around the competition,” Tapper said.

“From high-horsepower sideways rally action to historic cars on displays and everything in between, it’s great for the whole family.”

Interested participants who want to get involved but are unable to commit for the whole event have the option to take part in the shorter, and more accessible, Targa 2Day category.

“The Targa 2Day competition will be held on Saturday 10 August and Sunday 11 August and has been primarily set up for newcomers but also for anyone who is short of time or doesn’t want the expense of the four-day event.”

The Make Smoking History Targa West takes place in and around Perth on 8 – 11 August with all stages and displays free for the spectators.
