Zayne Admiraal has continued his brilliant preparation for September’s Adelaide Hills Rally after claiming the CAMS South Australian Khanacross Championship.

Behind the wheel of the Nissan Pulsar, Admiraal enjoyed an extremely tight battle with 2018 CAMS Australian Khanacross Champion Bradley, as well as Michael and Adam Clements.

With more than 40 drivers having multiple runs at the South District Car Club’s six-challenge event, which also acted as the fourth round for the club's multiclub series, it was the four front-runners who put on a show for the crowd as the battle went down to the wire.

Remarkably, Admiraal was slower than Bradley in every single run of the day, while he was able to beat Michael in just one run and Adam in three.

By the end of the event, all three Clements had finished ahead of Admiraal, with Bradley 36 seconds faster, Michael 30 seconds and Adam just six seconds ahead.

However with the Clements all driving in a Subaru WRX 4WD, they were all handed a five per cent handicap on their total raw score, rewarding Admiraal’s consistency and pressure with the outright victory.

While Bradley and Michael dropped to second and third, Adam finished the day in seventh place outright respectively, finishing behind another family team in the Tillets.

Driving the Volkswagen Golf GTi, Adam, Lachlan and Marc Tillet were the best of the rest coming in at fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Incredibly, Lachlan’s fifth place would have seen the teenager considered as the driver of the day after the junior was driving in the Under 16 Junior class.

The next best junior was Jason Rippon - the Suzuki Swift pilot placing a solid 13th outright and first in the Junior Class. The best female driver was the 23rd placed Sandra Stuut in her Hyundai Excel.

Following the state round, Clerk of Course Daniel Claridge was proud of the well-attended event as well as the efforts of Admiraal.

"To win against some of the quality we have here in South Australian Khanacross, including a current national champion is quite an impressive feat so a big congratulations for Zayne are in order,” Claridge said.

“The fantastic entertainment on track really symbolised the success of the event as competitors, officials and spectators enjoyed the weekend.

“It was also a really nice to have a number of females and juniors part of the 41 drivers so a big thank you to all the officials, sponsors and the Southern District Car Club for all their efforts in putting this event on.”
