Aussie drivers shine on world stage
Monday 02 September, 2019
There are plenty of Aussies tasting success around the globe.
It was a big weekend of motor sport across the globe, with plenty of Australians in action and achieving significant success.
IndyCar driver Will Power has continued to impress, with yet another race win, this time at Portland.
Power’s Portland success was particularly special, coming at the track where he first tested back in 2005.
In the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Jaxon Evans finished third at Spa – as part of the Formula 1 race meeting at the famous Belgian track.
The reigning Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup winner and Porsche Junior is certainly impressing on track.
Meanwhile, just a short distance away in Germany, Oscar Piastri had a perfect weekend at the Nürburgring, claiming two race wins and two pole positions at the Formula Renault Eurocup event.
“The car was pretty spot on all weekend - the guys at R-ace GP did a fantastic job. I don’t really know where the extra pace over everyone else came from, to be honest,” Piastri said.
“There’s a quick turnaround now and we get back on track in Hungary where I’ll be trying to build on this advantage in the championship. I went well there in the rain last year so I’m hopeful for a good result.”
The Melbourne born driver currently leads the Formula Renault Eurocup standings with four rounds to run.
Piastri will race again this weekend, with the next round at the Hungaroring.
CAMS Ambassador Daniel Ricciardo had a day to forget at Spa, finishing in 14th after a first lap incident cruelled his Formula 1 race in Belgium.
Ricciardo is again in action next weekend in Italy.
