Australian Calan Williams has confirmed he will take part in an official test day for the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The 19-year-old will join up with Jenzer Motorsport for three days of testing in October at the iconic Valencia circuit.
Williams, who is currently competing in the Euroformula Open Championship, said the F3 test would be a terrific opportunity to further his single-seater ambitions.
“I am incredibly grateful to Jenzer Motorsport for the opportunity that they have given me and with the preparation I have had and which is continuing I feel ready to make this step,” Williams said.
“I am really looking forward to showing how I can perform in the more complex and powerful cars amongst a huge field of the best young drivers in the world at F3 level.
“I am fortunate to have incredible support, and this would not be possible without my sponsors and Major Sponsor Lazersafe, along with my amazing team of investors all of whom I am very grateful for.”
With two seasons of European racing under his belt, as well as taking part in New Zealand’s popular Toyota Racing Series, Williams has had a solid run of form in recent months – finishing the most recent five consecutive races in Euroformula points paying positions.
Williams is also being backed by Perth businessman Dale Alcock who was eager to see the West Australian succeed at the highest level.
“Calan is a young man with inspiring drive and determination. The way he soaks up the pressure of one of the toughest sports there is, is extremely impressive,” Alcock said.
“Securing the opportunity to show what he can do during the testing in Valencia is a big step toward making the transition to FIA F3 in 2020, where he will compete in front of the world and under the noses of the F1 teams during F1 events.”
