Oscar Piastri has held onto his position at the top of the Formula Renault Eurocup standings after picking up two top-five finishes in Barcelona.
The series leader didn’t have the best of weekends as opposed to his recent form but scored enough valuable points to keep his lead over round winner Victor Martins.
Taking place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Piastri had a positive start to the weekend, qualifying in second place, only to find himself at the back of the grid at the opening corner of the first race after being pushed into a spin by Petr Ptáček.
It turned out to be a remarkable drive for Piastri as the 18-year-old ended up passing 12 cars during his recovery to finish in sixth place, which was turned into fifth when Ptáček was handed a time penalty.
In the second day of action, Piastri qualified in sixth place and as he did in race one, gained a few places early to finish on the final step of the podium.
As they had in the first race, Ptáčeka and Piastri were in the thick of the action again with the Czech driver defending well and holding off the Victorian in what was an entertaining battle.
With just two rounds remaining in the Formula Renault Eurocup, Piastri currently holds a 13.5 point lead over Martins, while third-placed Aleksandr Smolyar sits 39 points behind Piastri.
The Formula Renault Eurocup heads to the Hockenheimring for the penultimate round on 5-6 October.
