Oscar Piastri will head into the Formula Renault Eurocup season finale with a massive confidence boost after topping the afternoon session charts during the FIA Formula 3 Championship post-season test in Valencia.
The teenager enjoyed a solid weekend behind the wheel of the Italian based Prema Racing Formula 3 car, coming within a second of the leaders on the first day of action before posting the fastest day two afternoon time.
During the both days of testing, Piastri was near the top for all sessions before posting his chart topping time of 1:21.679 seconds in his last session to replace Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda.
There was another Australian in the session's top five, with Jack Doohan also recording the fourth fastest time to continue his pursuit of open wheel racing. 19-year-old Calan Williams finished the day in 28th position.
Williams had a much better outcome in the earlier session, finishing in 16th outright and producing a number of a strong laps as he looks to potentially claim a seat for next year’s championship.
While there is still one day remaining in the post-season testing, Piastri will head to Abu Dhabi to focus on the Formula Renault Eurocup's final round, leaving both Doohan and Williams to fly the Australian flag in testing.
