The S5000 series will welcome another international driver to the category in 2019 with British driver James Winslow confirmed to compete at the final Shannons Nationals for 2019.

 

Representing Team BRM, Winslow will line up in the same car that Alex Davison drove in the inaugural meeting at Sandown in September, despite the car being damaged in a major incident.

 

Winslow’s entry is major coup for the team as it signed Virgin Australia Supercars Championship regular Anton de Pasquale last month.

 

The Briton enters the round with a solid recent run of form, having won the 2019 Asian FRD LMP3 series title, as well as the holding current lead in this year’s China GT Championship having won four rounds with one round to go

 

Ahead of his return to Australia after winning the 2008 and 2012 Australian Gold Star crown, thanks to his work in a Formula 3 car, Winslow was excited to race in Australia’s newest open-wheel category. 

 

 “I really can’t wait to get into the S5000 and see what everyone is talking about,” Winslow said.

  

“The cars look amazing. Everyone knows that I love single seater racing, and it’s great that there is a good, strong class back in Australia. And to have a big V8 engine in the back is a massive bonus. 

  

“I’ve battled Tim Macrow in the Australian F3 before, so it will be good to do battle with him again. I’m also looking forward to re-joining BRM. I won the 2008 F3 title with them, so it’s nice to get back to a team I know.

 

“I’d definitely like to do more of this. I’d like to do the full championship next season. This round is a one-off, but very keen to get back into a single seater, and if the Gold Star was included next year, it would be good to come back and try and get a third title.”

 

With Winslow considered one of the most versatile racing drivers around the world, the 36-year-old holds quite an impressive resume which includes nine championships in Formula 3, as well as enjoying success in both the European and Asian Le Mans Series.

 

Tickets to the Shannons Nationals start from $20 per day and $30 for a weekend pass.
