Volunteer officials from the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2019 have been named as the Virgin Australia Best Volunteer Group at the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship’s Gala Awards dinner.
More than 800 officials were part of Australia’s preeminent international event, which launched the 2019 Formula 1 season and hosted the second round of the Supercars season.
With 15 different Supercars events occurring throughout the year, it’s an impressive feat for the CAMS officials collective to be recognised for their efforts and ability in putting a superb international event.
The event’s National Clerk of the Course Henk Duncan was delighted with the news honouring the officials who volunteered their services at the international event.
“I think the announcement is sensational and every single one of our CAMS officials volunteering at this event deserves the award,” Duncan said.
“From the senior officials all the way down, they had such a positive and enthusiastic attitude throughout those days – whatever we asked of them they did with the upmost professionalism. They all have a really strong work ethic.
“With Supercars now having a round at the Australian Grand Prix, it’s far more meaningful and this is highlighted by the fact that we have the best officials from right around the country involved with the event.
“It’s a big team full of people with all kinds of experience. There have been some who have done all 36 Australian Grands Prix and some who did their first, but at the end of the day, their enthusiasm for this event has never waived.”
While there were so many officials who were part of the Grand Prix event, Duncan was barely surprised they all had been recognised.
“It’s such a great event which has the interest of everybody, and all these officials worked so hard throughout the event,” Duncan added.
“The beauty of it is that they perfectly represent the high standard that is required for this type of meeting. A lot of officials really like Supercars, so I’m proud and stoked that they were awarded with it.
“It never ceases to amaze me that year after year, they put in such a good performance for the many hours across the four to five days that they are there.
“It’s a fantastic accolade for our officials to receive and we hope that they continue to adhere to this high standard of performance for many years to come.”
The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will once again feature as part of the Formula 1 season opener, which takes place on 12–15 March 2020 in Melbourne.
Applications for volunteer race officials at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2020 are now open and will remain open until Saturday 30 November 2019.
