Financial prize added to V8 Touring Cars Series

Thursday 28 November, 2019
The Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Cars Series will have an impressive prize pool for the 2020 season.
The Kumho Tyre Australian V8 Touring Cars Series has increased the stakes for the 2020 season with the category introducing a $125,000 prize pool.

The prize pool is the biggest ever to be on offer during the category’s 11-year history and will assist drivers in progressing their careers.

Adding to the prestige of winning a popular series, the winner of next year’s season will receive a cool $65,000, which they can put towards a drive in any ARG-backed Series in 2021.

On top of the winner’s prize, the outright runner-up will receive $30,000, third place will gain $15,000 and the Pro-Am based Kumho Cup winner will receive $5000– all of which can be put towards the 2021 season in an Australian Racing Group (ARG) series of their choice.

The opportunities available as part of the prize include carsales TCR Australia, S5000s and Touring Car Masters or once-off events like the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour or the fifth Bathurst International event to be introduced next year.

Category manager Liam Curkpatrick was thrilled with the financial bonus for competitors.

“The V8 Touring Car series has been around for more than a decade, but this is by far the largest prize pool we have ever been able to offer our competitors,” Curkpatrick said.

“ARG has seen the value in the series and its ability to produce highly talented drives, both young rising stars and Pro-Am Kumho Cup racers, who are looking to continue their careers in motor sport.

“Their support opens the door to our champions and key winners to taking a step up to competing in TCR or S5000, or perhaps tackling one of the several major events on their program next year.

“It’s an exciting time for the category and we are confident that this will continue to move the championship forward next year and beyond.”

Competitors planning to compete in the 2020 series can go into the draw to win significant credit towards next year’s calendar should they enter the season before Friday 20 December, making it another financial incentive for drivers.

The five-round 2020 Kumho Tyre V8 Touring Car Series will begin at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championship on 27-29 March.
