Phil Heafey has produced the fastest three times across five runs to beat more than 70 crews during the December edition of the Whiteline Rally Sprint at Sydney Dragway.

Behind the wheel of the lighting quick Mitsubishi Evo 6 and alongside good friend Michael Hiscoe, Heafey was too strong for the rest of the competition, posting an accumulative total of six minutes and 34 seconds.

The Evo pilot never seemed to be in doubt though, with all of his three runs faster than the closest competitor in runners-up Michael Caine and co-driver Tom Vadoklis – their Mazda RX7 ending up just under five seconds behind.

Rounding out the top three was David Isaacs and Ellie Yates after the Lancer Evo 9 duo fought off Ben and Glenn Dudley in the final two runs.

With Heafey now expected to take a one-year break from the sport and return in 2021, he was thrilled to be able to end the season on a high.

“I had the fastest car there, so it was an obligation to do well but what made the win ever sweeter was that we had a bit going against us,” Heafey said.

“We did Challenge Bathurst the week before and blew a diff, so I had to replace it with an old one and that hampered us significantly.

“It was really cool bringing someone along, especially an old mate like Michael. We had a ball together. But that’s not to say we were not focused. You have to focus pretty hard to do well in these things.

“We really like these events because you’re doing a number of runs in different lighting conditions, it’s a great atmosphere and everyone wanted to beat me which was fun.

“My wife and I decided to take next year off and go walkabout, so I won’t be back but it’s a very nice way to wrap up the season.

“I am looking forward to returning bigger and better in 2021.”

The Whiteline Tarmac Rallysprint Series now has an extended break until the fourth round takes place on 13 February at Sydney Dragway.
