The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will venture to a new circuit in 2020 with the ITM Auckland Super400 to now run at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.

 

The relocation from the championship’s regular circuit in Pukekohe was due to the Auckland Unitary Plan’s rule of restricted motorsport noise at Pukekohe Park Raceway on Anzac Day.

 

Despite the change of tracks, all Supercars teams, staff and event crews will remain based in Pukekohe and the Auckland region as both venues are in close proximity of each other and the city.

 

With the new solution created as a joint Supercars Australia, Hampton Downs and Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development operation, Supercars CEO Sean Seamer was pleased with the new outcome.

 

“Sincere apologies to our fans and partners for any inconvenience caused by the venue change but we’re going to be just 15mins from Pukekohe at one of the world’s best facilities and most demanding tracks,” Seamer said.

 

“It’s going to be great for everyone involved.”

 

Due to both circuits being close to each other, the move is expected to cause minimal disruption and inconvenience to all those who have already made travel plans for the Anzac weekend round, as well as the fans within the Auckland region.

 

Widely known as one of the country’s most challenging tracks, the world class facility of Hampton Downs also boasts excellent views for fans and Chief Operating Officer Josie Spillane was thrilled with the opportunity to host the Championship.

 

“We are delighted to be the host circuit of the ITM Auckland Super400, bringing Kiwi race fans their motorsport highlight of the year,” Spillane said.

 

“To be hosting the first Supercars event at Hamptons this year is an achievement our team is immensely proud of and we can’t wait to see who is crowned the inaugural champion on the circuit in April.” 

 

The event’s date will remain on the same with trackside tickets for Pukekohe already purchased to be valid for use at the new circuit.

 

 

The ITM Auckland Super400 will run at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park during the Anzac weekend on 24-26 April.
