The Motorsport Australia LF Performance Products Speed Series (SSES) has held its second round of the year with Peter Morley taking out top honours.
With the West Australian event taking place at Jack’s Hill, 30 competitors from around the state did battle across a range of classes as they looked to post the fastest run time on the popular hill climb course.
While there was a variety of classes on show during the event, it was the Formula Libres who once again proved too strong with Morley steering his OMS CF 10 to a two-second victory over 2019 outright series winner Marcel Every.
The pair were neck-and-neck all day, but Morley ultimately got the better of the reigning champion to win his first his first round since September where he won the Sprint Event at Barbagallo.
Rounding out the top three a further second behind Every was Stephen Dougherty. Behind the wheel of a 2002 BMW, Dougherty didn’t have it too easy throughout the day either, with Lukas Prior and Nathon McLaren both piling on the pressure during the
event.
Eventually Dougherty took out the final spot of the podium after posting a time just four tenths of a second faster than Prior in the Westfield SEW, while McLaren edged out another SEW pilot in 2019 series runner-up Ray Ferrari for fifth place.
McLaren also had the honour being the highest placed non-series competitor with the Subaru WRX driver leading the 15 driver who had entered just wanting to experience the hill climb track.
Following on from the successful event, series president Steve Metlitzky paid tribute to all those involved in the hill climb, as well as the series competitors for their efforts both on and off the track.
“I just wanted to say a sincere thanks to the West Australian Sporting Car Club, Motorsport Australia, Tony, Jayne and MSTALR and all volunteers for helping to run Saturday’s hill climb,” Metlitzky said via social media
“I also wanted to say how proud I was to see so many SSES people chatting to, encouraging and cheering on all the competitors and the same goes for the people from the WRX club.
“You guys and gals all did your respective Series and Clubs proud - both in terms of driving but also camaraderie.”
The next round of the series takes place at Collie Motorplex on 28-29 March.
