Holden’s farewell lap at The Bend
Friday 28 February, 2020
Holden will be celebrated during the OTR The Bend 500.
The Bend Motorsport Park could be part of history in September, when a world record is attempted to be made during this year’s 2020 OTR The Bend 500.
The track will form part of a unique Holden Tribute Cruise, which will start from the Adelaide centre and run all the way through to The Bend where it will end with an enormous show-and-shine.
Organisers are hoping the cruise and display, which will take place during the event’s Saturday session, will eclipse the current record of 1200 made during the Holden dream cruise’ in 2017 when the brand closed manufacturing at its Elizabeth plant.
The aim of the attempt will be to celebrate the remarkable Holden history and its contribution to South Australian and Australian culture by creating the largest single Holden convey in history.
Owners of any road-registered Holden product are encouraged to participate, while Ford fans are also invited to the convey to form a ‘guard of honour’ in a show of solidarity.
Sam Shahin, Managing Director of The Bend, believed the attempt would go a long way in celebrating the brand after General Motors announced the end of Holden in Australia.
“Holden rightfully occupies a very special place in South Australia’s heritage; we want to celebrate the brand’s significant history in the State by bringing owners together at OTR The Bend 500 this September,” said Shahin.
“We are passionate about South Australian motoring and Australian motorsport. We want to celebrate the end of an era by bringing passionate Holden owners together and quite literally fly the flag for Holden in the brand’s home state. I am confident that the wider Australian public, whether devout Holden fans or not, would want to be part of this tribute.
“We will have further announcements in coming weeks about how the event itself will shape up and come together to create a worthy tribute and fill The Bend with all things Holden this September.”
The 2020 OTR The Bend 500 takes place at The Bend Motorsport Park on 18-20 September.
