The North West Car Club has held its third event of the year with the club holding the 2020 BJR Rallysprint.
Eighteen crews were entered into the mini-rally event, which saw teams complete four runs of the three kilometre course in Burnie, alternating directions on the course.
Taking out the event win was Aidan Peterson with the 24-year-old steering a Nissan Sunny GTI to victory ahead of Subaru Impreza pilot Nic Grave and his father Lee, who also drove a Sunny GTI.
Grave’s second place saw him claim the Four Wheel Drive class over Steve Maguire and Luke Jones, while it was a one-two for the Petersons in the Front Wheel Drive class with Stuart Steyn in a Mazda 2 finishing third.
In the Rear Wheel Drive class, Kade Barrett steered his Plymouth Fire Arrow to the win over Rick Burt in the Falcon Ute and Roger Carter in a Nissan Bluebird.
Taking out the junior and senior female driver awards was 15-year-old Lucy Vandenberg in her Mazda 323 Sedan and 34-year-old Samantha Guy in the Subaru Liberty.
Event organiser Steph Peters was thrilled with the event and the positive feedback received from it.
“We’re really happy with our first big rally event for the year, especially since there was a such a variety of different vehicles across mainstream rally cars and standard road cars,” Peters said.
“A big congratulations to our class winners and top three, especially Aidan who switched his usual Daihatsu Charade for his father’s Nissan. It was fantastic effort from a young talented driver.
“We’re also thrilled with the passenger rides that were conducted through the day, where our officials and other interested parties were given the opportunity to enjoy the exhilaration of a ride in a full spec rally car.
“It was our way of saying thank you to so many of the officials, sponsors and other individuals who support us throughout the year, including local engineering supply company BJR who were the naming rights party.
“Everyone both on and off the track were really happy with the event, so we can’t wait until our next one.”
