Andre Heimgartner will be contesting in the second Formula 1 Eseries Grand Prix.
Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and carsales TCR Australia Series regular Andre Heimgartner will make his own unique ‘Formula 1 debut’ this weekend after being selected to compete in the second official Formula 1 Eseries Grand Prix.
The Kelly Racing driver will join the Renault DP World F1 Team for the virtual running of the Australian Grand Prix, which will act as a virtual replacement for what would have been the Vietnamese Grand Prix this weekend.
Heimgartner will be joining a star studded line-up for the Grand Prix, which will feature Formula 1 drivers Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Alexander Albon and Williams duo George Russell and Nicholas Latifi, as well as other celebrities including English cricketer Ben Stokes and Formula 1 pundit Johnny Herbert.
Having a wealth of experience on a racing simulator, the 24-year-old Kiwi enters the event after being handpicked on the recommendation of Kelly Racing’s partner, BP-Castrol and he was thrilled to have the opportunity to race against some of the world’s best.
“I think it’s every young driver’s dream to race in Formula 1 and to get to do it online against some of the best in the world will be something I’ll never forget,” Heimgartner said.
“I’ve got a bit of Eracing experience which I think will help, but it will be interesting to see how different it is compared to Supercars.
“I’m grateful to BP-Castrol for putting my name forward and hopefully I do Supercars and everyone at Kelly Racing proud; I’m looking forward to it.”
Heimgartner will also back up his virtual Formula 1 performance with the first round of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries later on in the week, which will see him compete against the full Supercars field on the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit.
The virtual Australian Grand Prix will begin at 6:00am AEST on 6 April, while Supercars open their 10-round Eseries season on 8 April at 7:00pm AEST. Both events will be broadcast live in Australia through on Fox Sports and Kayo.
