Smooth Sailing for Sutton and Tander

Friday 10 April, 2020

It was a much smoother affair for the second round of the carsales ARG eSport Cup as British Touring Car star Ash Sutton and Bathurst 1000 champion Garth Tander each comfortably took out a race win.

With a reduced 40-car field racing at the virtual Circuit Zolder in Belgium, Sutton proved too strong for the field in the opening race, claiming a solid pole position and backing it up with a seamless lights-to-flag victory.

Crossing the line more than 20 seconds behind the Brit was TCR Australia’s Dylan O’Keefe and Trans Am young gun Nathan Herne.

It was a similar story in the round’s second reverse grid race with Garth Tander starting in pole and ending the untroubled race more than four seconds ahead of Nic Carroll and O’Keefe.

Despite some carnage taking place on the opening lap of the first race and some minor incidents throughout, the two races ran without a hitch.

With two rounds of the series now complete, O’Keefe currently holds a slim nine point lead in the standings over Sutton, while Herne is just a further five points behind in third.

Rounding out the top five and the only other drivers to have registered 100 points are Carroll and Jaden Ransley.

The next round of the carsales ARG eSport Cup sees the digital competition head to Watkins Glen in the USA on 16 April with the broadcast to take place from 8pm AEST.

Fans can watch the race through on the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ website and also on the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ Facebook page.
