Shane van Gisbergen has extended his lead at the top of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries with two more victories during the latest round in the series.

The wins didn’t come easy for the Kiwi, with fellow series front runner Anton De Pasquale piling on the pressure throughout the first race at Phillip Island, before Scott McLaughlin made him work for the victory in the final stages of the third race.

A third place finish in the second race to add to his collection of points made it a successful night for van Gisbergen, who won his second consecutive round of the series and took his outright lead to 146 points.

“I really enjoyed that round and had some good battles with Scott,” van Gisbergen said post-round.

“That third race coming back through the reverse grid was a lot of fun. Always a lot of action in those races. And it was a good battle with Scott and Chaz Mostert. Always a lot of fun.”

Mostert had one of his best rounds to date with two podiums, while De Pasquale’s night turned sour in the final outing after putting in the hard yards in the opening two races.

Finishing second behind van Gisbergen in the opening race, De Pasquale led the field at Brazil’s famous Interlagos from lights to flag, finishing two places ahead of van Gisbergen.

However, starting from the back of the grid in the round’s final race in Brazil, De Pasquale just couldn’t make up the same ground as van Gisbergen, finishing the 20-lap race in sixth place behind James Golding and Cameron Waters.

McLaughlin’s second place in the final race was his best result of the night, while Waters enjoyed one of his best rounds for the series with three top five finishes.

Despite van Gisbergen adding more points to his healthy position on the standings, one of the stories of the night went to wildcard entry Fawzan El-Nabi.

It was a dream start for El-Nabi as the Victorian became the first wildcard entry for the season to claim an ARMOR ALL Pole Position after topping qualifying at Phillip Island.

Unfortunately, a slow start off the line in the opening race saw him not only lose his lead instantly, but also drop down to 16th as a result. The 23-year-old improved in the second race to finish runner-up before placing in the top 10 during the final race.

The BP Supercars All Stars Eseries heads to Michigan for next week’s round with a second track to be decided by the drivers in the coming days.
