Porsche has confirmed the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup will join the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships season opener at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of its revised 2020 calendar.
Carrera Cup will appear at the Sydney event alongside the marque’s junior category, the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, as well as a host of other categories in what is set to be a bumper return to racing on 14-16 August.
Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships Director Michael Smith said the season opener was looking like being one of the biggest events in the event’s history, given the number and quality of events on the billing.
“We’re very pleased to welcome the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup to the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships along with a host of Australian Series and Championships,” Smith said.
“The second half of this year promises to be very exciting for motorsport fans, with a number of different categories taking the opportunity to join our Shannons events.
“Alongside the stable of Australian Racing Group categories, including carsales TCR Australia Series and VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, there are plenty of categories to get excited about in 2020.
“Sydney as the first cab off the rank will also be a spectacular way to start the revised calendar with a bang.”
Porsche Cars Australia’s Head of Motorsport Troy Bundy was also pleased to unveil the Cup calendar, with the majority of events taking place alongside the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
“We are pleased to reveal our revised 2020 calendar that will see Porsche brand racing again in Australia, which is something that we are very passionate about,” Bundy said.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank both Supercars and Motorsport Australia for the support they have given us in developing this great line-up of events for the remainder of this season.”
Earlier today, the Motorsport Australia GT Championship announced it would too be part of the Sydney event.
Other categories confirmed to take place include carsales TCR Australia Series, VHT S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, Australian National Trans Am Series and the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters.
