The Summit Racing Car Club has continued its longstanding tradition of putting the spotlight on its women and junior competitors, with another successful running of its Denise Gosden Memorial Enduro over the weekend.

Dedicated to the late Denise Gosden, who was an extremely hard worker and a popular figure in off road racing until her death in 1986, the event has taken place every year since then with the sole aim of giving the club’s women and juniors a chance behind the wheel.

With eight cars entered into the Wynarka based event, it was Tanya Wales who took out the victory alongside Neville Day after the duo led for almost the whole 12 lap race.

Having started the race behind Lachlan Turley and his father Kerry after the 16-year-old won Sunday morning’s Prologue, Wales and Day found themselves in the lead within the first lap as a result of mechanical dramas for Turley.

Wales remained challenged for the remaining 11 laps of the nine kilometre course and the Pro-lite driver eventually took out the win over Lauren Andrews and her father Richard.

Turley recovered after his dramas and finished third ahead of Jarrah Taylor and Zoe Marshall, while Dana Fachen and husband Ben managed to beat Lisi Phillips and Ethan Pickstock to round out the top five.

Following on from the enduro, club President Mark Taylor was thrilled with the passion of all the participants.

“It was a really good event and everyone from the eight entries had a lot of fun. It was very well run, and I am confident that everyone enjoyed themselves,” Taylor said.

“While Sunday’s racing was good, we had a test and tune day on Saturday where all the ladies and juniors got a chance to get fully prepared for the race by practicing on the nine kilometre track.

“The event is in honour of Denise Gosden and we have done it every year since her death. She was a great lady and heavily involved in the off road circuit.

“We really get a kick out of this event because every year, it’s one of the only times where women or juniors get a chance to drive throughout the year.”
